07/27/15: Construction Update

The following work is scheduled over the next three weeks:

Toll Plaza

  • West side (exiting 14A): construction continues on the new toll lane and toll island.
  • East side (entering 14A): construction of the new building and utilities continue.
  • Individual (single) toll lanes will be closed nightly, 8:00PM to 5:00AM M-F, beginning the week of 08/03/15.  This work is expected to last for two weeks.

Ramps between the Toll Plaza and the Hudson County Extension (HCE)  

  • Widening construction continues on the ramps to and from the west bound HCE.
  • Demolition work on the Avenue C and JFK Boulevard bridge structures continues.  Expect local street lane closures and traffic holds mid-day, the week of 07/27/15, for bridge demolition on Avenue C and JFK Boulevard.  This work will be supported by Bayonne or Jersey City Police.
  • Retaining wall construction along Frontage Road continues. This work will also be supported by Jersey City Police.
  • Local street level work at Garfield, Avenue C and JFK Boulevard bridges continues.
  • Proposed Sign Structure Locations adjacent to the corner of Avenue B / E58th Street Corner, corner of Avenue C Structure and Garfield Avenue Structure (PSE&G Sub-Station) will be constructed.  When needed, Bayonne PD or Jersey City PD will be asked to support this effort.

Avenue E / Proposed Roundabout

  • Deep sewer construction will move into the median of Avenue E the week of 07/27.
  • Two way traffic will be split to provide a single lane in each direction leaving a median work zone between E50th Street and E53rd Street the week of 07/27.  Access to E52nd Street from northbound Avenue E will not be available.  This work zone is expected to be in place for three weeks.  This work will be supported by Bayonne Police.
  • Extended and overnight work shifts are expected.

Route 440 and Pulaski Street Intersection / Jughandle

  • The southbound Route 440 Jughandle at Pulaski Street will be reduced to a single lane during the week of 07/27 to accommodate deep sewer construction.
  • Utility relocation will continue on Pulaski Street at Route 440.

Ramp Area East of Route 440

  • Ground improvements in advance of new ramp construction continues.

Building Demolition

  • Work continues in advance of building demolition for the Millions Warehouse on Pulaski Street at Route 440.

  • Deep sewer construction will move into the medina of Avenue E.
  • Two way traffic will be moved onto the northbound (east) side of Avenue E early in the week of 7/20.  Later this week, traffic will be split to provide a single lane in each direction leaving a median work zone. This work will be supported by Bayonne Police.
  • Extended work shifts are expected.

Route 440 and Pulaski Street Intersection / Jughandle

  • The southbound Route 440 Jughandle at Pulaski Street will be reduced to a single lane during the week of 7/20 to accommodate deep sewer construction.
  • Utility relocation will continue on Pulaski Street at Route 440.

  • Ground improvements in advance of new ramp construction continues.

Building Demolition

  • Work continues in advance of building demolition for the Millions Warehouse on Pulaski Street at Route 440.

Toll Plaza

  • West side (exiting 14A): construction continues on the new toll lane and toll island.  Nighttime closures of the western most Toll Lane are expected during the week of 07/13 to 07/17 from 9:00PM to 5:00AM for construction.
  • East side (entering 14A): construction of the new building and utilities continue.

  • Widening construction continues on the ramps to and from the west bound HCE.

07/06/15: Construction Update

The following work is scheduled over the next three weeks:

Toll Plaza

  • West side (entering 14A): construction continues on the new toll lane and toll island.  The western most Toll Lane will be closed during the weekend of 7/10 from 9:00PM through 7/13 at 4:00AM for construction. All other lanes will remain open.
  • East side (leaving 14A): construction of the new building and utilities continue.

Ramps between the Toll Plaza and the Hudson County Extension (HCE)  

  • Widening construction continues on the ramps to and from the west bound HCE.
  • Demolition work on the Garfield Avenue and Avenue C bridge structures continues.  On 7/09, expect lane closures and traffic holds mid-day for bridge demolition on Avenue C.  This work will be supported by Jersey City Police.
  • Retaining wall construction along Frontage Road continues. This work will also be supported by Jersey City Police.
  • Local street level work at Garfield and Avenue C bridge continues.
  • Proposed Sign Structure Locations adjacent to the corner of Avenue B / E58th Street Corner, corner of Avenue C Structure and Garfield Avenue Structure (PSE&G Sub-Station) will be constructed beginning the week of 7/13.  When needed, Bayonne PD or Jersey City PD will be asked to support this effort.

Avenue E / Proposed Roundabout

  •  Removal of raised median areas in preparation for temporary pavement continues.
  • Intermittent night work will begin the week of 7/20. This work will be supported by Bayonne PD.

Route 440 and Pulaski Street Intersection / Jughandle

  • The southbound Route 440 Jughandle at Pulaski Street will be reduced to a single lane during the week of 7/06 to accommodate deep sewer construction.
  • Utility relocation will continue on Pulaski Street at Route 440.

Ramp Area East of Route 440

  • Ground improvements in advance of new ramp construction continues.

Building Demolition

  • Daibes Gas Station on Avenue E at E51st Street is expected to be demolished during the week of 7/13.
  • Work continues in advance of building demolition for the Millions Warehouse on Pulaski Street at Route 440.

Other Upcoming NJTA Work

No additional weekend cycles are scheduled between June 22nd and Labor Day. Overnight, off-peak closures are scheduled as needed.

Motorists can call 511 from any phone (Listen for the initial voice prompt and ask for traffic conditions. Motorists can ask for a specific Highway, City, or even a point of interest. Residents of Newark / Essex County and Kearny / Hudson County can monitor traffic conditions by accessing Turnpike webcams at http://www.state.nj.us/turnpike/cameras-and-signs.html, and http://www.511nj.org/cameras.aspx.

 

06/22/15: Construction Update

Week of 06/22/15 – From Interchange 14A Toll Plaza to the westbound Hudson County Extension, as well as from the ramp from westbound Hudson County Extension to the Toll Plaza, ramp widening work will continue including bridge work, retaining wall construction, and excavation activities.

Work will continue on JFK Boulevard, Avenue C, and Garfield Avenue bridges in advance of partial bridge demolition to accommodate the overall Turnpike Ramp improvements. Local street work is expected.  This work will be supported by Bayonne and/or Jersey City Police as necessary.

Work continues on the east and west sides of the Toll Plaza before and after the toll booth as part of the lane capacity increase. These work zones allow for new toll lane and facility construction.

During the weekend of 06/26/15, the western most (exiting the Turnpike, right side) Toll Lane will be closed from 9:00PM Friday night to 5:00AM Monday morning for new Toll Lane construction.

Utility work on Avenue E between E50th Street and E52nd Street will continue, including deep sewer installations and water main activities. A work zone has been established along the northbound roadway to facilitate this work. Also, daily travel lane shifts are expected. Bayonne Police will provide assistance during construction.

Deep sewer relocation work will begin on the west side of Route 440 at the Pulaski Street Jughandle, and will be supported by Bayonne Police.

Utility installation work including water mains, gas mains and drainage will continue on Pulaski Street at the Route 440 intersection. This work will be supported by Bayonne and/or Jersey City Police as necessary.
