06/24/16: Construction Update

The following work is scheduled over the next three weeks:
 
Toll Plaza
  • East side (entering 14A): renovation of existing Toll Utility Building will continue.
  • Continue Toll Lane 3 & 4 reconstruction.
Ramps between the Toll Plaza and the Hudson County Extension (HCE)
  • Widening construction continues on the ramps to and from the west bound HCE.
  • Local street level work at Garfield, Avenue C and JFK Boulevard bridges continues. This work will also be supported by Jersey City and Bayonne Police as needed.
  • Work continues on a VMS Sign Structure under the Turnpike Bridge over Route 440, near the Newark Bay. Access is being provided from Route 440.
  • Roadway and drainage construction work continues.
  • Asphalt paving will be performed during the week of 06/27/16.
Avenue E / Proposed Roundabout
  • Bridge pier construction will continue in dedicated work zones.
  • New retaining wall and roadway construction on Avenue E near 53rd Street will continue.
  • Began receiving structural steel deliveries on 06/08/16.  These structural steel deliveries will continue through the week of 06/27/16.
  • Erect Structural Steel for new Connector Bridge along Avenue E during the week of 06/27/16 and 07/05/16.  This work will be supported by Bayonne Police as needed.
  • During the weeks of 06/27/16 and 07/05/16, nighttime work will be performed, 8:00PM to 4:00AM, to erect structural steel over Avenue E, south of 52nd Street.  Nighttime detours will be used to accommodate the work.  This work will be supported by Bayonne Police as needed.
Connector Bridge (Bridge from the Toll Plaza to Port Jersey Boulevard)
  • A two-way traffic pattern has been implemented on the bridge ramp from Port Jersey Boulevard to the Toll Plaza.
  • Pedestrian usage of the bridge for access to and from Port Jersey Boulevard continues to be prohibited. Please CLICK HERE for shuttle bus pamphlet.
  • Structural steel errection will continue through the week of 07/05/16.
Route 440 and Pulaski Street Intersection / Jughandle
  • The southbound Route 440 Jughandle at Pulaski Street has been reduced to a single lane and a median work zone has been established in Route 440.
  • Deep bridge foundation work will continue at the Jughandle.
  • Ramp roadway construction will continue.
Ramp Area East of Route 440
  • Ground improvement and new ramp construction continues.
  • Retaining wall construction continues.
  • Bridge abutment construction will continue.
  • Drainage and utility work will continue on Pulaski Street.  This work will be supported by Bayonne Police as needed.
  • Asphalt paving on portions of new ramps will be performed during the week of 06/27/16.

06/22/16: Traffic Advisory

On Wednesday, 06/22/16, westbound Pulaski Street will be diverted to Port Jersey Boulevard, between Pulaski Lane West and Chosin Few Way, from 6:00AM to 4:00PM, to accommodate new drainage installation.  Eastbound traffic will remain in its current alignment.  This work will be supported by Bayonne and Jersey City Police.

When needed, Bayonne PD or Jersey City PD will be asked to support this effort.
  • Work continues on a VMS Sign Structure under the Turnpike Bridge over Route 440, near the Newark Bay. Access is being provided from Route 440.
  • Roadway and drainage construction work continues.
Avenue E / Proposed Roundabout
  • Bridge pier construction will continue in dedicated work zones.
  • New retaining wall and roadway construction on Avenue E near 53rd Street will continue.
  • Began receiving structural steel deliveries on 06/08/16.  These structural steel deliveries will continue for the next two weeks. On 06/20/16, during the day, an oversized beam delivery will be made to the work zone on Avenue E via an Avenue C and 53rd Street route.  Residents on 53rd Street, between Avenue C and Broadway will be asked to temporarily remove their vehicles from street parking during mid-day hours.  This delivery and escort will be supported by Bayonne Police.
  • Erect Structural Steel for new Connector Bridge along Avenue E during the week of06/20/16.  This work will be supported by Bayonne Police as needed.
  • On 06/23/16, a short duration mid-morning detour of southbound Avenue E will be used, diverting traffic to Broadway via 52nd Street, for steel beam erection over Avenue E.
  • During the weeks of 06/27/16 and 07/05/16, nighttime work will be performed, 8:00PM to 4:00AM, to erect structural steel over Avenue E, south of 52nd Street.  Nighttime detours will be used to accommodate the work.  This work will be supported by Bayonne Police as needed.

06/16/16: Traffic Advisory

On Thursday, 06/16/16, an over sized steel beam will be delivered to the 14A project work site on Avenue E.  The delivery route will take the beam from Route 440 onto Avenue C to 53rd Street.  Residents on 53rd Street, between Avenue C and Broadway, are advised that street parking during the day on 06/16/16 will be restricted to accommodate the over sized load.

06/15/16: Traffic Advisory

On or about Wednesday, 06/15/16, the current two (2) northbound Route 440 travel lanes will be divided between Pulaski Street and Harbor Drive in Bayonne.  The left lane will be maintained in its current through alignment and the right lane will be shifted East (to the right) adjacent to the Northbound off ramp alignment and merge back onto the original two-lane configuration immediately South of Harbor Drive.  This traffic pattern will be in effect until late Spring 2017.
